This Week…
-This Friday, December 23, Murphy’s will host a Christmas Jam featuring several talented local pickers and singers. Ben Smith has agreed to dress up like an elf and recite “Twas The Night Before Christmas” while playing the bass and taking tequila shots.
-If you’re one of the masses who loves live music but doesn’t want to stay out until all hours of the night, head to Canyons this Saturday, December 24, for the latest installment of their JAM Brunch featuring Don Vallarta. And of course, if you’re feeling jazzy, you can always catch Todd Wright & Friends every Sunday for the Jazz Brunch.
Next Week…
-This is a true story: David Via can no longer participate in MerleFest’s Chris Austin Songwriting Contest because he either won or placed very highly on multiple occasions. The moonshine-swilling bluegrass troubadour and his band Corn Tornado will be back at Murphy’s on Saturday, December 31, for a New Year’s Eve bash. Don’t miss it.
-Speaking of hot bluegrass picking, Canyons will host Asheville-based outfit The Woodies to ring in the new year on Saturday, December 31. With tight harmonies and stellar chops, the quartet plays bluegrass renditions of classic and folk rock favorites.
On The Horizon…
-Blowing Rock’s Hayes Performing Arts Center will open its doors for two nights when the town hosts its annual Winterfest. On Friday, January 27, local blues treasures The King Bees will host the Winter Blues Fest featuring Beverly “Guitar” Watkins. On Saturday, January 28, newgrass phenom John Cowan and his band will pick up a storm.
-Comedic monster Lewis Black will return to the High Country for a performance at Farthing Auditorium on Thursday, February 9.
