Elk Knob Needs Volunteers…
Elk Knob State Park at 5564 Meat Camp Road in Todd will hold a volunteer trail workday each Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. through August. Volunteers must bring work gloves (leather preferred), wear closed-toe shoes (no sandals or flip flops) and bring water and snacks for the day. If weather is questionable, call the park office at 828-297-7261 before 8:15 a.m. on Saturday.
Hunger Coalition Needs Volunteers …

Hospice Volunteer Training Begins September 9…
High Country Hospice needs volunteers to make home visits, help in the office, help with the upcoming bazaar and radiothon and provide respite for caregivers. Western Watauga Branch Library Needs Book Donations…
Support the Friends of the Western Watauga Branch Library for their first ever book sale. You can help now by donating your books, videos, DVDs and books on tape to the branch library. The sale will be held on Friday and Saturday, October 24 and 25, so you have plenty of time to clean off your shelves and bring materials in for someone else to enjoy. Volunteer Soccer Coaches Needed…
Watauga County Parks and Recreation is looking for volunteer youth soccer coaches. The soccer program offers various leagues for youth ages 5 to 15 and runs from mid-August through early November. Games are played Monday through Friday at 5:30 p.m. or after, and also on Saturdays between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Teams typically meet three times per week. Coaches must work well with kids and have knowledge of soccer. All volunteer coaches must undergo background checks and screening. Anyone interested in serving as a volunteer soccer coach should contact Holly Gates at the Watauga County Parks and Recreation office at 828-264-9511.
Local Interagency Coordinating Council Meeting Thursday…
The Local Interagency Coordinating Council will meet on Thursday, September 4, at 12:00 p.m. at the Wellness Center in Boone. Adair will lead a workshop called Writing the Hero’s Journey: Twelve Steps to the Elixir.
