A young boy hops off the school bus and comes to the back door of the Hunger and Health Coalition. He peers inside and sees food. He has very little food at his house. There are also people who care about him and will talk to him. No one is at his home to talk to right now.
This is how the Snacks for Scholars program began—by giving wholesome snacks to children who had no other place to get them.
Not only does the Hunger and Health Coalition provide food and medicine to those who cannot afford them, but also identifies needs in the community and sets up programs that will satisfy those needs. The Hunger and Health Coalition is asking for your financial help to accomplish these missions.
The Christmas in the Mountains CD was so successful last year that work has begun on Volume 2. For a donation of $100 or more, you can have your name on the CD insert as a supporter of this project and also help cover the production cost. Send donations to Hunger and Health Coalition, P.O. Box 1837, Boone, NC 28607. Make checks payable to the Hunger and Health Coalition and write Christmas CD on the memo line.
Donations must be received by Friday, August 1, for your name to be listed on the CD cover. You will receive a complimentary copy of the CD.
Last year, the Hunger and Health Coalition earned, after expenses, more than $20,000 on the first Christmas in the Mountains CD, and, with the help of the community, hopes to double that amount this year.
Just a few of the generous performers who have donated their time and talent to Christmas in the Mountains, Volume 2 are Doc Watson, The Kingston Trio, Amantha Mill, Jeff Little, Helen White, Diana and Sarvis Ridge Band, Todd Wright, Rumple Presbyterian Church Choir and Laura Kaufman.
Christmas in the Mountains, Volume 2 will be available in more than 60 locations the first week of October. If you would like to be one of those locations, call the Hunger and Health Coalition at 828-262-1628.
