Registration Deadline July 17
If you are a landowner interested in learning more about managing your land in western North Carolina, you are invited to attend the Woodscaping Your Woodlands & Firewise Management workshop on Friday, July 25, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturday, July 26, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Holmes Educational State Forest in Hendersonville. Participants will have hands-on opportunities to learn general skills and information useful in managing their land.
This workshop is a general overview of managing forest land—how topography and soil affect the forest type and forest management methods. Attendees will learn basic information on forest insects and diseases, pasture management, and growing native woodland medicinals and ramps, as well as how to protect structures using Firewise landscaping and construction techniques and incentive programs that are available to help landowners achieve their goals.
Participants will receive equipment to help them manage their land and will meet agency representatives and others available to provide assistance with land management goals. This workshop is the second in a series of four in the Biltmore Forest School Woodland Steward Series designed to promote a healthy environment by educating landowners about land management.
The cost is $50 per person per session, with spouse or other family member at $25. Registration includes lunch, snacks and workshop-related materials.
Registration for this workshop will be accepted through Thursday, July 17. Credit toward NC Environmental Education Certification is available, as well as CEU credits.
