Story by David BrewerOne of the foremost interpreters of pop and folk music for more than 40 years, vocalist Judy Collins will perform at Farthing Auditorium on Saturday, July 19, as part of An Appalachian Summer Festival.

Judy Collins, a self-proclaimed American Idol of 1957, is truly the definition of a living legend. Her influence in music and politics has spread over decades. Her vocal interpretations have inspired millions, and her love for folk music has brought other performers, such as Randy Newman and Joni Mitchell, to widespread public exposure.

On Saturday, July 19, Collins will perform at Farthing Auditorium as part of An Appalachian Summer Festival. The show begins at 8:00 p.m. and tickets are currently on sale at the Farthing box office and online at www.appsummer.org.
From the time she discovered folk music to her current new albums, new songs, television specials, books and activism, the singer-instrumentalist has always remained creative and vibrant as an artist.

During her career, which began with her public debut at age 13, Collins has released more than 40 albums and has scored numerous Top 10 hits, Grammy nominations and gold and platinum selling albums. The success of 1960s favorites “Someday Soon,” “Who Knows Where the Time Goes” and “Chelsea Morning” helped solidify her as a musical icon, and she remains a powerhouse to this day. Her latest album, Judy Collins Sings Lennon and McCartney, has met with rave reviews.

Collins maintains a rigorous 60- to 80-city concert schedule annually, with festival dates, performing arts center engagements, symphony dates and a highly successful annual Christmas tour.

In addition to her recording and performing career, Collins has written two volumes about her life, as well a novel entitled Shameless.
