Artists’ Reception at John Turchin Gallery Friday
The John Turchin Art Gallery, in conjunction with The Great Train Robbery in Banner Elk, will showcase artists David Banegas and Eric Nord through Friday, August 15. A formal reception with complementary hors d’oeuvres and wine will be held in the gallery on Friday, July 18, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

At age 19, Eric Nord hung his first professional show of paintings in London with sculptor Gordon Roberts. At 21, Nord had his first one-man show in Amherst, Ohio. An accomplished sculptor and painter, Nord has always had diverse interests. He has worked as a stonemason, architectural designer, historic preservationist, real estate developer and restaurateur. These explorations and experiences have formed the framework from which the artist creates. Nord operates Nord Rivers Studios in Miami Beach, Fla. (www.nordriverstudios.com) and spends his summers on Beech Mountain. He maintains a close relationship with The Lodges at Eagles Nest.

South American painter David Banegas (www.davidbanegas.com) is currently a guest artist at Nord River Studios in Miami Beach. The guest artist program at Nord River Studios was established for artists who have a significant personal style. These artists are invited to share space and collaborate in an environment conducive to artistic and personal growth.

Artists’ Reception at Crossnore Fine Arts Gallery Friday
On Friday, July, 18, the Crossnore Fine Arts Gallery in Linville will hold a reception from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. featuring the work of watercolorists André Jeanjean and Jean Perrollaz. The reception is open to the public.

André Jeanjean is a watercolorist from Paris, France, and he chooses his subjects as he travels, either for their story or for their emotive power. He is fond of precise and detailed painting with a fresh colored palette that gives his watercolors calmness and immateriality.

Jean Perrollaz is Jeanjean’s son-in-law and is a self-taught watercolor artist. Military assignments in Africa gave Perrollaz an opportunity to discover that continent and to integrate it in his favorite themes.

The Crossnore Fine Arts Gallery invites everyone to come and enjoy this exhibition and help the artists help Crossnore children. Proceeds from the gallery help fund the Stepping Stones Program at The Crossnore School, a program that targets the needs of teens who are emancipated by their home county Department of Social Services but still want to continue their education.

The work of André Jeanjean and Jean Perrollaz will be exhibited through Thursday, July 31.The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. For more info, click to www.crossnoregallery.org or call 828-733-3144.

Using Color Schemes in the Landscape Workshop August 25 to August 27
Amy Funderburk will teach a three-day workshop—Exploring Color with Pastel: Using Color Schemes in the Landscape—from Monday, August 25, through Wednesday, August 27, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day at Artpurveyors.com on Highway 105 South in Foscoe.

This in-depth exploration is for artists who want to get a handle on the use of color in their work with a focus on the pastel landscape, but artists wishing to use other color media in which they feel well versed, including oils and acrylics, are welcome.

A lecture and slide show begin the workshop that will explore the color wheel, color schemes, color use throughout art history, and the emotional, psychological, physiological and symbolic reactions to color choices. Hands-on projects will first consist of color mixing exercises. The keys learned from this exercise about the effects of editorial color combinations will then be applied to a more formal plein-air landscape composition, weather permitting.

The fee is $300 and includes a new 84 pc. plein aire boxed set of Sennelier pastels, a $155 value. A suggested materials list will be provided to participants in advance. All materials will be available for sale onsite at Art Purveyors.
