Story by Anna Oakes
Ashe County Little Theatre presents the play I’ll Never Be Hungry Again at the Ashe Civic Center Thursday through Sunday, August 21 to 24. The play is a musical comedy spoof of Gone With the Wind by playwright Catherine Bush.
“[The Ashe County Little Theatre is] interested in new projects and new scripts, and Southern musical comedy like that is very popular,” said Rebecca Herman, program director for the Ashe County Arts Council.
In the modern-day musical, college student David—played by Jeremiah Cullen—has been assigned to write a paper on Gone With the Wind for a class, but he has procrastinated and is running out of time. He starts reading somewhere in the middle of the book, and the comedy arises from his perceptions of the novel. Rachel Naggy plays Starlett O’Hara, Brandon Kearley plays Ghastly Wilkes, Tyler Cloherty is Smelanie Hamilton and Mark Tomasik is Whet Butler. Little Theatre veteran Dayne Hodge is the director, Doyle Brown is musical director and Edie Miller produces.
Bush is the playwright in residence at Virginia’s Barter Theatre. I’ll Never Be Hungry Again premiered at the Barter Theatre to sell-out audiences.
Show times are 7:30 p.m. Thursday to Saturday and 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. The Ashe Civic Center is located at 962 Mount Jefferson Road in West Jefferson. For more info, call 336-246-4483 or 336-846-2787.
