ASU Football Fan Fest at Kidd Brewer Stadium August 16

Story by Anna Oakes

Tickets for the 2008 ASU football season are selling faster than ever before, but for the first event of the season, you won’t need a ticket. The annual free Fan Fest event takes place at Kidd Brewer Stadium on Saturday, August 16, at 4:00 p.m.

Fan Fest gives football fans a chance to interact with the ASU football team before a new season begins each year. At 6:00 p.m., the team will hold its final intrasquad scrimmage of the preseason. Last year, about 6,000 fans attended Fan Fest.

Activities prior to the scrimmage include autographs and photos with Mountaineer players and coaches and a youth skills clinic led by Appalachian players from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. Players will rotate through the autograph area in 15-minute segments, said Samantha Stevens, assistant Athletics director for marketing and licensing.

Fans can also enjoy face painting by ASU cheerleaders, an inflatable park for kids and an exclusive sale of uniforms and travel gear previously worn by Mountaineer athletes. The latest in new ASU apparel from the ASU Bookstore will also be available to purchase.

Construction of an upper east side seating deck is not expected to be complete in time for Fan Fest, Stevens said. In addition, construction on the west side of the stadium will bar any access to the area underneath the west side stands—fans will only be able to access the stands from the track. The Athletics Department has yet to determine which side the fans will sit on during the Fan Fest scrimmage.

Some fans arrive earlier than 4:00 p.m. to tailgate prior to Fan Fest. Parking on campus is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Last year’s scrimmage between the first-string Gold team and the second-string Black team ended in a 14-14 tie.
