Teen Actors Guild Auditions August 17

The Blowing Rock Stage Company will hold auditions for its 2008 Leaf Season on Monday, August 18, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Hayes Performing Arts Center, 152 Jamie Fort Road in Blowing Rock.

Actors should prepare one of the following: a brief monologue, a brief song or 16 bars of a song and a one-minute monologue. If you are singing, bring sheet music; an accompanist will be provided. No a cappella singing, please. Also bring an 8 by 10 picture with resume attached.

Auditions are for The Tempest by William Shakespeare, directed by Kenneth Kay and Lies & Legends: The Musical Stories of Harry Chapin directed by Amy London. Many male and female roles between the early 20s and 60s are available for both productions.

The first rehearsal for The Tempest is Friday, September 19, and the show runs from Friday, October 3, to Sunday, October 12.

The first rehearsal for Lies & Legends is Friday, October 3, and the show runs from Friday, October 17, through Sunday, November 2, with a possible one-week extension through November 9.

Also, auditions for the Blowing Rock Stage Company’s Teen Actors Guild (TAG) will be held on Sunday, August 17, from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. TAG is open to all students ages 13 to 18. Auditions will be held at the Hayes Performing Arts Center in Blowing Rock. Students must make an appointment to audition. For TAG auditions, contact BRSC’s Education Director Kim Cozort Kay at 828-295-9168, ext. 3 for audition requirements and times.

TAG members are on a pre-professional acting track and tour area high schools with plays related to social issues such as school violence and substance abuse. The TAG mission is to be young ambassadors for the Blowing Rock Stage Company and to share the wonders of theatre. A primary goal for TAG members is to speak to their peers through theatre and make a difference in people’s lives.

“We’re looking for students who have a serious interest in the art of acting,” said Kenneth Kay, producing artistic director. “This will be an ensemble group with many performance opportunities. Therefore, it is very important that anyone who wishes to a part of TAG must be able to make the commitment to attend all classes, rehearsals and performances.”
