On Monday, August 18, the Hayes Performing Arts Center’s second of two fundraising concerts will feature renowned and radical classical string trio Time For Three.
With a repertoire that seasons the musical spectrum with an improvisational fusion of bluegrass, classical, jazz, chamber and world music, Time for Three (otherwise known as Tf3) is virtually unclassifiable, yet this trio of classically trained musicians has garnered quite a reputation for their infectious concerts and sometimes rambunctious interpretations of classical works and popular hits—from Brahms to The Beatles.
Proceeds will benefit the Hayes Center’s capital fund (retirement of the construction debt and maintenance of the facility), education endowment (continuation and expansion of TOPs and arts outreach and programming) and general fund (operations of the center and enhancing the annual budget).
Although Tf3’s members are only in their late 20s, the graduates of Philadelphia’s venerable Curtis Institute of Music, who play 120 concerts each year, have performed with many of the world’s preeminent conductors and orchestras.
English conductor Sir Simon Rattle, principal conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic, showered the band with praise, saying, “Simply put, they’re a knockout! Three benevolent monsters—monsters of ability and technique surely, but also conveyors of infectious joy that I find both touching and moving.”
Even legendary actor Paul Newman questioned his own profession after hearing the charismatic threesome.
“To hear these three young guys is to be thankful that music was invented… If I had been able to create a sound like these kids a few years back, I might have thought twice about going into acting,” said Newman.
For a limited time, prime seats for Tf3 will be offered for $75. All other seats are $50 and are available by calling the Hayes Center box office at 828-295-9627 or by clicking to www.hayescenter.org.
Fundraising package tickets for both the Sunday, August 10, Yuja Wang performance and Tf3 are available for $125. Special group rates are also available. Season and Flex Passes can be purchased and used throughout the entire ‘08 season.
