App Summer Presents Film The Underground Orchestra July 9
The Underground Orchestra, a documentary profile of musicians who play on the sidewalks and in the Metro of Paris by award-winning filmmaker Heddy Honigmann, will show at the Dragonfly Theater on Thursday, July 9.
ASU’s premier summer arts attraction, An Appalachian Summer Festival, introduced film to the festival’s cross-disciplinary mix of music, dance, theatre and visual arts in 2008. This year, An Appalachian Summer Festival offers an even more film offerings as part of the 25th anniversary season.
The “Magic of the Motion Pictures” film series is generously sponsored by Footslogger’s Outdoor & Travel Outfitters of Boone.
On Thursday, July 9, the Dragonfly Theater & Pub will show the film The Underground Orchestra at 8:00 p.m. The film is a glorious documentary profile of musicians who play on the sidewalks and in the Metro of Paris by award-winning filmmaker Heddy Honigmann. This film illuminates the lives and music of a ragtag group of musicians united by political repression and the boundless courage that led them to find refuge in Paris. Music becomes their economic lifeline and a shining metaphor for their will to survive.
The film has subtitles and runs for one hour and 48 minutes. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for students ages 6 to 18 and $5 for children. Purchase tickets at Farthing Auditorium in advance or at the Dragonfly on the night of the show. Ticket prices increase on show nights.
