A4: Appalachian Adventure Achievement Award Seeks Nominees
Nomination Deadline January 31
William Washam received last year’s A4 in the 18 to 24 age group. Last year the ASU’s Outdoor Programs unveiled the inaugural Appalachian Adventure Achievement Award (A4) on the Farthing Auditorium stage at the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour stop in Boone, and it will do the same this year.
According to the Outdoor Programs website, the A4 recognizes individuals who exemplify the outdoor lifestyle, elevate the status of their mountain sport in the High Country, are role models or mentors, contribute to social or environmental awareness of the area and are excellent ambassadors of the High Country outdoor community. Sports include skiing, snowboarding, climbing, trail running, biking, kayaking, backpacking, mountaineering, adventure racing, etc.
“We are not necessarily looking for the best paddler, though that would be great to get those kinds of nominations,” said Rich Campbell, associate director for Outdoor Programs. “We’re just looking for good people who are giving back and contributing to their outdoor mountain sport.”
The deadline to nominate someone for the A4 is Tuesday, January 31. Individuals may be nominated in one of two age categories—17 and under; and 18 to 24 (as of March 31, 2012).
