Holiday Events in the High Country
Just like Fiddlin’ John Carson sang on the old-time fiddle tune, “Christmas time will soon be over.” The High Country has several more Christmas activities left, though, including many holiday church services, live music and hayrides. Be sure to look below for the next event to attend.

Tree Fest Exhibit, Thursday to December 28
Ashe Arts Center hosts the Tree Fest exhibit that features decorated trees, ornaments, holiday crafts, gifts and miniature paintings through Wednesday, December 28. Christmas Jam at Murphy’s, Friday
High Country musicians will perform in a Christmas Jam at Murphy’s Restaurant on Friday, December 23, in downtown Boone. Various local bands will play. The cover is $5, and the music starts at 8:00 p.m. For more information, call 828-264-5117.
Chetola Resort’s Festival of Lights, Through January 29
Fifty thousand bulbs will illuminate Chetola Lake during the holiday season and will turn Chetola Resort into a winter wonderland. The Festival of Lights continues through Sunday, January 29. For more information, click to www.chetola.com or call 828-295-5500.

All kinds of holiday events are happening, and Santa might be seen at many of them. Listed below are events for kids and outdoor activities.
Breakfast with Mrs. Claus, Friday
Join Mrs. Claus for a free breakfast at the Buckeye Recreation Center in Beech Mountain and Christmas stories by the fire on Friday, December 23, at 9:00 a.m. Also, last-minute “Letters to Santa” will be accepted. For more information, call 828-38-3003.
Beech Mountain Bonfire & Hayride, December 28
The Beech Mountain Chamber of Commerce sponsors the “Bonfire & Hayride” event on Wednesday, December 28, at 6:00 p.m. Free hayrides leave the Sledding Hill, which is located near the Beech Mountain Chamber. Nearby, a bonfire takes place at the Famous Brick Oven Pizzeria. Enjoy cookies, hot cocoa and cider and caroling amidst the Christmas lights of Beech Mountain. Morris Hatton, Saturday
On Saturday, December 24, at 7:00 p.m., Morris Hatton will be the special invited guest musician for the 19th annual Service of Adoration, Communion and Candlelight at Brookside Presbyterian Church in Boone. All are welcome. For more info, call 828-262-5020.
Mount Vernon, Saturday
Mount Vernon Baptist Church invites you to celebrate Christ’s birth on Christmas Eve. The church presents Jingle Jam, a service designed for children and parents, on Saturday, December 24, at 4:00 p.m. Candlelight services follow at 5:30 and 7:00 p.m. Mount Vernon also hosts holiday worship services on Sundays, December 25 and January 1, at 9:00 and 10:30 a.m. Mount Vernon is located at 3505 Bamboo Road.
