Turchin Center Announces Winter Workshops

The Turchin Center for the Visual Arts and ASU’s Department of Art are working together to provide visual art workshops to children, older teens and adults during the winter months. Below is description of the workshops that will be offered starting in January 2012. For more information on how to register, visit http://tcva.org/calendar/mega/562.

Workshops for Children

January 23 to February 27, 2012
Turchin Center Classroom 3200

Taught by Art Education Faculty and Elementary Education Majors

Inspired by Room 13 in Scotland where children are free to use an art studio to make what has meaning for them (painting, printmaking, monster drawing, comic books, boxing rings, parachuting clay Smurfs), children will elect a management team to order supplies, decide on fundraising and to oversee the room. Children must be 7 years old to attend.

Tuesdays, 3:15 to 4:30 p.m. (ages 7-13)
January 24 to March 6
Turchin Center Classroom 3200
Cost $30
Taught by Art Education Faculty and Art Education Majors

Allow your child to put their imagination on paper as they draw ninjas, dragons, fast food restaurants, horses, killer moths, self portraits, rolling hills, Sponge Bob or whatever they set their minds to. The museum is overflowing with sketchbooks, paper, pencils, kneaded erasers, pastels and charcoal.

Workshops for Adults

“Open Life Drawing Sessions”
Supervisor: Jason Watson, Assistant Professor, Art Department
Tuesdays, 7:00 to 10:00 p.m.
January 17 to May 1
Turchin Center Classroom 3200
1 session for $5
5 sessions for $15
10 sessions for $25
*Vouchers must be purchased prior to attending sessions

ASU staff, students and community are invited to come and draw from a nude model, every Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. Artists with all levels of life drawing experience can join in on these ongoing, open studio sessions. You provide the materials; we provide the space, an exciting drawing community and the inspiration. Drop in to work on your own figurative projects week to week, freshen up some old drawing skills, or just to try life drawing for the first time. Sessions are non-instructional and will include a mix of long and short poses using both male and female models.

Open life drawing sessions are ongoing; there is no specific registration period. Life drawing voucher cards can be purchased at the Turchin Center welcome desk during regular business hours. Up to 20 artists can be accommodated at each session on a first come first served basis. Arrive five minutes early to reserve your spot.
